Capacity Building

Our capacity building efforts support policy learning and research around the world. Throughout the year the AMR Policy Accelerator hosts policy internships, knowledge mobilization webinars, and training aimed at strengthening antimicrobial resistance (AMR) capacity among policymakers and emerging leaders.

Our commitment to capacity building also extends to our team. To encourage an environment of continuous learning, we offer frequent professional development opportunities, and experiences.

Our AMR Policymaking course is an interdisciplinary program for AMR experts to develop the skills to navigate the policymaking process, integrate diverse evidence, and address AMR challenges with equity, ethics, and political insight at national and global levels.

The curriculum draws on theory from social and political science, epidemiology, and international law. Delivered through problem-based learning and case-informed discussions, participants are immersed in a highly engaging, evidence-based learning environment that encourages collaboration and practical application.

This course is offered both in online and in-person formats. Each course is designed and delivered by experts from GSL, York University, and external lecturers, who share their expertise while benefiting from the diverse insights and real-world experience of course participants. The in-person course is hosted in collaboration with CIFAL York and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

If you are interested in arranging a short course for your organization or network, please contact Kayla Strong at amrpolicy@globalstrategylab.org.

The AMR Policy Accelerator’s internship program offers valuable hands-on experience for undergraduate and master’s students with an interest in public health, AMR, global health, and science communication. Interns work closely with our team, contributing to meaningful projects that support real-world impact.

Past interns have played key roles in:

  • Academic publications – assisting with research, analysis, and manuscript preparation.
  • Stakeholder communication products – developing accessible materials for policy and public engagement.
  • International advisory products – supporting the development of recommendations for global health initiatives.

Internship positions are typically posted during the winter term on our website and LinkedIn page. Sign up to our monthly newsletter and be the first to know when a new position is open!

The Unpacking AMR podcast shares research findings, innovative projects, and expert insights on AMR. Through engaging discussions and interviews, we demystify the complexities that surround AMR, explaining the research, and putting it into context for a broader audience.
