Launch of Smart Choice Process Workshop in Uganda

On February 25th and 26th, 2025, the AMR Policy Accelerator proudly hosted another Smart Choice Process workshop in Mukono, Uganda!

The Smart Choice Process serves as an effective methodology designed to support countries in systematically evaluating and selecting priority interventions aimed at supporting the development and execution of a country’s National Action Plan (NAP) on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). It combines evidence-informed approaches with inclusive dialogue, ensuring that decisions on intervention priorities are contextually informed, transparent, and representative of perspectives across the One Health sector.

During the workshop, the AMR Policy Accelerator’s Senior Policy Lead, Kadia Petricca, along with Policy Advisors Suzanne Naro, Clare McGall, and Vesela Ivanova worked closely with the Government of Uganda and country experts from One Health sectors to prioritize AMR interventions. They collaboratively examined both the challenges and enabling factors associated with these priority interventions, aiming to ensure the sustainable implementation of Uganda 2024-2028 NAP.

The workshop fostered a rich exchange of ideas, revealing the complexities and barriers to implementing each prioritized intervention. The spirit of multi-sectoral collaboration was palpable, driven by a shared commitment to combatting AMR.

By dismantling institutional siloes, key stakeholders in Uganda paved the way for effective NAP implementation through a One Health perspective.
