AMR Policymaking Course Inaugural Session

The inaugural session of the AMR Policymaking Course brought together policymakers and
researchers from One Health sectors.

From October 7-11, 2024, the AMR Policy Accelerator welcomed participants to the Global Strategy Lab’s offices at York University for the inaugural session of the AMR Policymaking Course.

Developed as an executive-style educational program for AMR experts from technical backgrounds, the course brought together policymakers and researchers from One Health sectors, to strengthen their capacity in AMR policymaking. The course curriculum drew on theory from social and political science, epidemiology, and international law, and incorporated problem-based learning and case-informed discussions to immerse participants in a highly engaging, evidence-based learning environment.

The design of the 1-week course was developed by the Accelerator’s Director of Research, Arne Ruckert who shared, “The course was unique in the level of engagement by all course participants who were deeply immersed in lectures and problem-based learning activities, and actively contributed to case-based discussions”.

The AMR Policymaking Course was delivered by York University, Global Strategy Lab, and external lecturers who not only shared their expertise but also benefited from the valuable insights, feedback and practical experience shared by course participants. The course was held in collaboration with CIFAL (Centre International de Formation des Autorités/Acteurs Locaux) York and the UN Institute for Training and Research.
